Even if you haven’t heard of Herman Miller, you’ve probably seen some of the company’s handiwork. Since the early 20th century, Herman Miller has been making modern furniture with the help and influence of major designers, and is behind the production of some of the most iconic industrial furniture. The minds at Herman Miller are responsible for such famous furnishings as the Aeron chair, the Eames Lounge Chair, and the Nelson Marshmallow Sofa, to name a few.
Herman Miller remains a unique presence and influence in the world of modern furnishings, and today channels its efforts in many different ways. The company works with a number of alliances to improve, create and distribute its products, frequently providing tech companies with modern office furnishing solutions. Among Herman Miller’s alliances is CORT Rental Furniture, a company providing “rent to rent” fine furnishings and office solutions, and has been working with Herman Miller since 1997.
Believe it or not, Herman Miller’s first office system was introduced in 1942; the Executive Office Group was just the beginning. The Action Office (AO) system of 1968 was the first open-plan modular system in the world, and essentially introduced the idea of the moveable cubicle. Today, Herman Miller has produced many revisions of the iconic AO series as well as some new creations, all of which are available through companies like CORT that work in conjunction with Herman Miller.
Herman Miller office furnishings place great importance on functionality as well as aesthetic. The Aeron chair, for example, is an icon that changed the definition of a work chair. Featured in the Museum of Modern Art’s permanent collection, it was designed in 1994 with the needs and aesthetic of the modern workplace in mind, and is 94 percent recyclable. It also won the Design of the Decade award from BusinessWeek magazine and the Industrial Designers Society of America in 1999.
With an office systems service and several different series of office furniture suites, tech companies benefit from the quality and style Herman Miller supplies. CORT Rental Furniture works with Herman Miller to furnish a fully-functioning office. Whether an office for a self-storage or a tech startup, the ideas behind the designs of Herman Miller office systems allow companies to move straight to productivity and success without having to worry about the effectiveness of their furnishings.
