The Austin tech scene is a constant buzz of activity, and it’s a daunting task to stay current with all the startup crawls, happy hours, acquisitions and emerging companies. If you’re like me, you’re part of the growing number of Americans who know the value of social media platforms like Twitter as a fast, personalized source for news. It’s the key for every Austinite who considers him or herself in the know.

Along those lines, we present SpareFoot’s list of the best Austin startups and entrepreneurs on Twitter. It’s by no means exhaustive, but these folks are a great initial step into Austin’s vibrant community of startups, investors, techies and socialites. At the very least, this list should help you find a couple places to drink with the pros and collect some awesome startup swag.

Refresh Austin

Interested in the tech scene in Austin? Then get familiar with Refresh Austin, a cutting-edge community of tech professionals who volunteer their time and expertise to educating and networking in and around the Austin area. Refresh Austin hosts frequent meetups and seminars featuring guest speakers from Dell, GitHub and everywhere in between. Follow @RefreshAustin on Twitter for news, info and upcoming events in the Austin tech scene and beyond.

Also check out Refresh co-conspirators @BaldMan, @atxryan and @cecycorrea.

Mass Relevance

Judging by the Mass Relevance Twitter feed, our neighbors across the street work in (almost) as cool an office as we do. We love their company culture, but it’s the startup’s awesome handle on the world of social media that makes @massrelevance a worthwhile follow. Its blog is packed with tips for promoting your brand, and its amazing products are featured everywhere from CNN to Adidas. If you’re looking for brand inspiration, the latest social media trends or a good old-fashioned job posting, then Mass Relevance is a great place to look.

Austin Technology Incubator

@ATI_UT Austin wouldn’t be the small business haven it is today without the collaborative efforts between the community and the University of Texas. Since its founding in 1989, the Austin Technology Incubator has been dedicated to promoting economic growth and equipping the next generation of entrepreneurs for success. ATI alumni include SpredFast, Famigo and RideScout, along with 200 or so other amazing startups. As a result, @ATI_UT has some of the deepest connections and die-hard fans you could ask for.

ATX Web Show

There’s a reason Austin is seen as a leader in design and development, and it’s not because of our city planning. Austin is home to a vibrant community of designers and programmers, and this is the focus of the ATX Web Show podcast. Co-hosts Dave Rupert, Travis Swicegood, Andy Keil and Sam Kapila discuss startup news and events, the latest in innovative design, and life tips for the budding programmer. You can find many of these topics nicely packaged into 140 characters on @atxwebshow, and you can count on these true Austinites to keep you informed on everything that’s good.

Joshua Baer

There isn’t an Austin-preneur around who hasn’t heard the name Josh Baer. He is the Captain Picard of the federation of startups and one of the masterminds behind Capital Factory, whose startup incubator program helped SpareFoot find its footing here in Austin in 2009. From an impressive startup portfolio to his 1semesterstartup course at the University of Texas, it’s no wonder he was named 2013 Austin Community Leader of the Year by the Entrepreneurs Foundation of Central Texas. You can count on @JoshuaBaer to show you the next hot startups, exclusive events, facts, figures, job openings, and just about anything else worth knowing about our community.

UMeTime Austin

What’s better than a great deal? A great deal that’s only a block away. That’s the concept behind the innovative new app by Austin’s own UMeTime, which uses your location to notify you every time a deal goes live in your vicinity. Not only is it an awesome money saver, but it’s the perfect bridge between frugal Austinites and the local businesses we know and love. UMeTime’s Twitter feed is a constant stream of deal updates from our favorite shops and restaurants around town. Next time you’re on the fence about lunch, just check out @UMeTime and let your wallet help you decide.
